In 1988, a men’s senior golf league was organized by Enger Park Golf Course staff member Jim Smart. After his passing, it was renamed the Jim Smart Memorial Senior Golf League in his honor.
Our golf league is comprised of men at least 55 years old who want to compete in a FUN AND FRIENDLY atmosphere. We tee it up on Thursday mornings at 8:30 AM at Enger Park Golf Course in Duluth Minnesota. League play consists of fourteen teams playing each other in two-man best ball (with handicap) matches from the first week of May thru Early-September. Each team supplies four team members to compete in two matches every week. Match scoring follows the Ryder Cup format.
Throughout the season, we also schedule four voluntary special events (e.g., scrambles, shambles, etc.) in lieu of league play. However, if weather prevents the playing of a prior regularly scheduled match, the next event will be cancelled and replaced with a previously postponed match.
On the Thursday morning after the final week of match play, another voluntary scramble event is held followed by a catered banquet with door prizes and special recognition of the team league champion. Each championship team member is presented with a commemorative hat and their name is inscribed on a league championship plaque which is displayed in the Enger Park Clubhouse.
League Fees
All fees are due and payable by the first day of match play.
Each team is responsible for paying a $75 sponsorship fee.
Each league member pays a $20 membership fee.
These fees cover the following costs:
1) Four weekly Enger Park Pro Shop credits for proximity prize winners (two closest to the hole on a par three and two longest putt holes).
2) Banquet costs including, food, door prizes, and champion team member hats.
3) League administration costs.
Note:
1) Each member is responsible for their own weekly green fees and associated course fees (e.g., driving range or cart fees).
2) Voluntary event participants pay a registration fee to cover that event’s prizes.
